This morning, Red Bull announced the Untapped Magic tournament series, which will award $200,000 in prizes and culminate in the Top 8 players competing in the Red Bull Gaming Sphere in London on August 4, 2019.

Four Qualifying Events

Red Bull Untapped begins with four qualifying tournaments: two on MTG Arena and two tabletop tournaments in Florence, Italy and Brussels, Belgium.

The two MTG Arena qualifiers will be Best-of-3 Standard Constructed tournaments on June 29 and 30, 2019 and will be 256 players each. The events will start with a group stage where players will be divided into four-person groups and play a round robin tournament. The top two players from each group then advance to a 128-player single-elimination bracket. The Top 4 players will win a combined $10,000 in each event, with $5,000 going to the winner, and the Top 2 from each event will advance to the Top 8 Finals.

Red Bull Untapped prize payouts

The two tabletop Magic tournaments will take place in Florence on July 6, 2019 and Brussels on July 7, 2019 and will be 226 players each. The events will feature three rounds of Modern Horizons Sealed and five rounds of Modern with swiss pairings and a Top 8 single-elimination bracket. The Top 64 players at each event will win a combined $60,000, with $10,000 going to the winner, and the Top 2 from each event will advance to the Top 8 Finals.

How to Get Invited

The qualifiers are invite-only but you can apply for your chance to be invited. Applications are now open on FaceIt and close on June 10, 2019 at 4 PM Eastern (22:00 CEST). There are 964 invites total split among the four events and all invited players will compete for free.

Once applications close, Red Bull will use multiple sets of criteria to determine who is invited. For the MTG Arena qualifiers, Red Bull will select up to 16 Magic Pro League members, up to 34 Twitch streamers with over 10,000 followers, up to 40 Mythic-ranked players on MTG Arena, and a minimum of 100 players from Europe. The remaining slots (out of 256 total) will be randomly allocated among the other applicants.

For the tabletop Magic qualifiers, Red Bull will again select up to 16 Magic Pro League members, up to 50 Twitch streamers with over 10,000 followers, and a minimum of 100 players from the regions that are hosting the qualifiers: Italy for the Florence qualifier, and Belgium, the Netherlands, France, and Germany for the Brussels qualifier. They will also be up to 10 invites for winners of in-store qualifying events in Florence or Brussels, and 10 additional invites for winners of in-store qualifiers across Europe. The remaining slots (out of 226 total) will be randomly allocated among the other applicants.

The Top 8 Finals

The Red Bull Gaming Sphere in London, England

The Top 2 players from each of the four qualifying events will compete in the Top 8 Finals at the Red Bull Gaming Sphere in London, England on August 4, 2019. The format will be Standard Constructed and will be played on MTG Arena.

The Top 8 Finals will feature a total of $60,000 in prizes, with the winner being awarded $20,000 as well as an invite to Mythic Championship VI Richmond on November 8-10, 2019. The event will be streamed on twitch.tv/redbull starting at at 1 PM Eastern on August 4.
