The preview season for Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths is winding down, and Wizards of the Coast saved some of the set’s most impactful cards for last: five rare tri-lands that enter the battlefield tapped and have both basic land types and cycling.

The Triomes—Indatha Triome, Ketria Triome, Raugrin Triome, Savai Triome, and Zagoth Triome—are tri-lands, meaning that they can tap for three different colors of mana, that represent regions of Ikoria. They are centered on the colors that make up Magic’s wedges, combinations that are one of Ikoria’s themes. The original wedge tri-lands debuted in Khans of Tarkir, which released in 2014 and was also a wedge-themed set, with cards like Sandsteppe Citadel that entered the battlefield tapped but didn’t have any other characteristics.

Ikoria’s Triomes, on the other hand, come with two characteristics that will make them even more impactful that the Khans tri-lands: basic land types and cycling.

The fact that the Triomes have basic land types mean that they can be searched for with fetchlands like Misty Rainforest. In fact, since each has three basic land types each, Misty Rainforest can fetch up four of the five Triomes—everything but Savai Triome! If that wasn’t enough, they also come with cycling, which is one of the most powerful abilities a land can have. This allows players to discard the Triomes when they already have enough lands and draw a new card.

Another advantage the Triomes have over the Khans tri-lands is that they all have their very own showcase frames with alternate art. Similar to the other showcase cards, the Triomes’ showcase art by Robbie Trevino feature stunning, colorful, and expressive line art

You can find Magic’s newest tri-lands in both Draft and Collector Boosters of Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths, Magic: the Gathering’s latest expansion set. Ikoria releases online on April 16, in paper in some Asia-Pacific countries on April 17, and in the rest of the world on May 15. Unfortunately, the Triomes are not included in any of the five Ikoria Commander decks—though they really could have used them.

Where do you think the Triomes will be on the spectrum of powerful multicolor lands? Are they more powerful than most of Magic’s dual lands? Let us know on Twitter!
