Sometimes, a four-legged friend crosses the Rainbow Bridge too soon.
Just after Christmas, Magic: the Gathering artist Alayna Danner’s beloved black lab Jake—who was introduced to the Magic community in Danner’s illustration for Animal Sanctuary—was called home, only three days after a sudden and unexpected cancer diagnosis.
In his honor, all proceeds (including shipping costs) from print and playmat sales of “Animal Sanctuary” from Alayna’s store in January and February will be donated to three animal charities:
- Regional Animal Services of King County (King County Animal Shelter)
- McMonigle Veterinary Hospital’s Furry Friends Fund
- Friends of Animals

For any previously purchased prints or playmats, Alayna is retroactively totaling those sales and will be donating that amount too. These causes were all near to Jake’s heart, and he’s got a big smile on his face knowing you’re making a difference.

Danner has painted more than 50 cards for Magic, and fans can find Jake painted in in the lower right-hand corner of Alayna’s recent illustration for Animal Sanctuary from Core Set 2021.
