Team Swagoi member Eric “conanhawk” Hawkins won Week 10 of Fandom Legends’ $4k MTG Arena tournament series Thursday evening, beating fellow Team Swagoi member Tom Locke.
Hawkins played White Weenie, a veteran archetype in the Standard format that focuses on flooding the board early with efficiently costed white creatures such as Skymarcher Sentry and Adanto Vaguard to apply pressure early, while closing the game with haymakers such as History of Benalia and Gideon Blackblade.
Hawkins defeated 2015 SCG Player’s Champion Jim Davis on Izzet Phoenix in the quarterfinals, and streamer Dave Sea, also on Izzet Phoenix, in the semifinals. He met with Locke on Gruul Stompy in the finals, defeating his teammate after a three-game set. This was Hawkins’ first appearance in a Fandom Legends tournament.
Fandom Legends tweeted out that the Grand Finals featured “NO ESPER DECKS!!!!”, indicating the recent trend in the tournament placements within this series.
