Everyone I know is always talking about how they want to stream. I’m guilty of that too.  But with Legacy Hero I’m in the position where I have to do it. I will be streaming—yes, you read that right! Since I won’t be able to go to Legacy night until after I submit this article, I’m going to write about my proposed streaming schedule and what I’ve learned about streaming thus far.

For those of you who don’t know, I do have a tiny bit of streaming experience. I’ve jumped on a few streams with Erin Campbell and been a voice in the background with her. This has given me a taste of the exhausting work that streaming is! You have to be able to focus on a lot of things at once: play your game, keep an eye on chat, and stay entertaining for multiple hours. It’s harder than it looks but that’s just the stuff that you can see.

Getting all the cards you need online can be a challenge of its own. Trading cards is time consuming and cumbersome. While sites like CardHoarder make buying cards easier, it still a complicated process that can be taxing for those of us who mostly play with paper cards. I’m focused on building the deck in paper to bring to Grand Prix Vegas, and while assembling an online version doesn’t factor into my budget, it still eats away my time.

Equipment also matters. You need make sure you have purchased a good webcam and a high-end microphone. Both are crucial for streaming. It took me awhile to find a ones I liked, but I managed to get there. Having two monitors also helps quite a bit. That setup lets me jump around from screen to screen with less stress.  Then you need to set up the software, design a layout, and find a schedule that works. I am using OBS software and working out a layout, but scheduling is where you can help!

Now that I’m ready, I’d love to start playing and having people watch! I’m working on this challenge for you all. This is your chance to tell me when you can watch! I was thinking about streaming Sundays or Mondays after 8pm EST, but only if that makes sense.

What are you thinking? When would you like to watch me play some budget Death and Taxes and help me fine tune the deck live? Hit me on Twitter and let me know!

Kate hails from Worcester MA and also does a bit of Card Altering. Check her Stuff out on Facebook! She mainly plays legacy and modern though will occasionally find herself playing EDH.
