My Little Pony returns to Magic: The Gathering today in the form of “Magic: The Galloping 2,” featuring Applejack, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, and Rainbow Dash. The cards will be available today, September 18, 2023, as a part of the Extra Life fundraiser.

The cards will cost $50 for foils and $40 for non-foils and can be purchased from the Secret Lair store. Wizards of the Coast says that 50% of the proceeds will go to Seattle Children’s Autism Center.

These new Ponies will have silver borders, just like they did in their Magic debut four years ago with the original “Magic: The Galloping.” That release was also a fundraiser for Extra Life and contained three cards—Princess Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, and Princess Luna—released in 2019 on Hasbro Pulse for $50.

Since then, Wizards created the Secret Lair Drop Series, which sells unique Magic cards directly to players from the Secret Lair store. Today’s “Magic: The Galloping 2” release will use that new Secret Lair infrastructure rather than Hasbro Pulse.

Wizards of the Coast has greatly increased the number of Magic cards using non-Magic IP since 2021 as a part of the Universes Beyond product line. But Wizards had experimented with including Hasbro-owned IPs in Magic well before then. The first example was 2017’s HasCon promos: Grimlock, Dinobot Leader, Nerf War, and Sword of Dungeons & Dragons. Those were followed in 2019 by the inclusion of My Little Pony in “Magic: The Galloping.”

Both previous releases used silver borders, which represents that the card cannot be used in officially sanctioned games, as does “Magic: The Galloping 2.” This is in contrast to Wizards’ decision to use normal borders for the Universes Beyond products like The Walking DeadWarhammer 40k, The Lord of the Ringsand Doctor Who.
