A couple weeks ago I wrote about my dive into Nic Fit, a fun toolbox deck that I thought would make a fun change as I take a break from MUD. Now that I’ve had a chance to play it a few times I’ve cleaned up the list a bit.

Here is my new list to test:

NicFit of the Future

Creatures (14)
Siege Rhino
Thragtusk
Sigarda, Host of Herons
Karametra, God of Harvests
Veteran Explorer
Academy Rector
Titania, Protector of Argoth
Bontu, the Glorified

Spells (25)
Garruk Relentless
Sorin, Grim Nemesis
Green Sun’s Zenith
Abrupt Decay
Cabal Therapy
Pernicious Deed
Liliana of the Veil
Diabolic Intent
Swords to Plowshares
Eldrazi Conscription
Hunting Grounds
Overwhelming Splendor
Lands (21)
Phyrexian Tower
Forest
Swamp
Plains
Scrubland
Windswept Heath
Verdant Catacombs
Bayou
Savannah

You will see I traded a Savannah for a Scrubland, something that was much needed. If I have an opening hand that is going on the Diabolic Intent/Academy Rector plan and I have a basic forest in hand it leaves me feeling really awkward. I think this change will make a huge difference to the deck because there wasn’t a round I didn’t go, goddamnit where is a Scrubland, despite how green the deck is.

I was tempted to cut Garruk, but he’s won a surprisingly large number of games. I actually wanted to add in a second Planeswalker—Vraska, Relic Seeker tempted me quite a bit. She wouldn’t be that hard to cast in this deck and I think she would be pretty fun, protecting herself until she can bring your opponent’s life down to basically nothing. I also considered Vraska the Unseen—her ultimate is just so amazing—before deciding on Sorin, Grim Nemesis as my fun-of, cutting Meren to make room. I never had a game where I wanted Meren, so I decided it was time for her to go.

You’ll see I also added in Bontu, the Glorified after I realized it’s a quick 4/6 that gives me an outlet to sacrifice my creatures.  I’m not sure how good this will be but I’m super hopeful and looking forward to testing it.

Lastly, I swapped Recurring Nightmare for Hunting Grounds. While I love Recurring Nightmare, it just wasn’t working for me in my metagame. Threshold is really easy to achieve so I thought Hunting Grounds would be a fun way to drop some fatties onto the field.

I’m not sure how these changes will do but I’m looking forward to testing them. I’m also hoping to put together a Nyx-Fit deck at some point and give it a spin. The recent success of the deck has definitely intrigued me. Keep an eye out on Twitter because I’m going to try to stream it early next week!!
