Marvel’s Spider-Man’s pre-release is fast approaching, and while I normally am excited to look at the cards from a sealed perspective when a pre-release comes, this week, I want to look at potential cards from a Commander point of view. It can be pretty tough to keep up with things on the Commander side, but there’s a ton of Legendary creatures available in this set, and three in particular are catching my eye.

Lady Octopus, Inspired Inventor

When I see a low cost artifact enabler, I will always pay attention. When said artifact enabler that needs counters doesn’t remove those counters, I’m more than always paying attention. As a commander, Lady Octopus is an easy way to get whatever engine or ramp you want going. A potentially overlooked aspect of this card is how you can gain ingenuity counters during any turn, causing this to grow out of control extremely quickly. Throw in some cheap instant cast draw spells and the card almost plays itself.

Hide on the Ceiling

Speaking of powering out artifact synergies, Hide on the Ceiling is another tool for any powerful artifact synergy that requires entering triggers. X costs are always dangerous and worth looking at, but this one in particular can enable a ton of combo nonsense, save your board from a sweeper, disable a combat step, or get a stolen artifact or creature back. The versatility is amazing, and it’s certainly worth considering for any permanent based combo.

Mister Negative

This might be my favorite card in the set. Black and white have very easy ways of dipping your life to exchange while also gaining an advantage somehow, and Mister Negative is a very quick way of putting the game out of reach for a player. Seven mana is a lot to ask for, and the body isn’t the most impressive, but having access to white can enable a bunch of blink effects and the like, staggering ways to drop your life in between turns. An awesome design with a powerful effect.

Marvel’s Spider-Man has impressed on the Commander front, and I’m excited to see what people implement into their decks, and what new brews people come up with!
