The Emerald Division was the final division to play in the Magic Pro League’s Eldraine Split, leaving Mythic Championship VII in December as the only remaining event in the season.

The Emerald Divisions’ Top 4 bracket.

Romão defeated Brad Nelson on Gruul Adventure in two games in the Upper Finals match which put him directly into the Grand Finals. Carvalho beat Mike Sigrist in a Sultai Food mirror match and then defeated Brad Nelson in the Lower Finals to advance to the Grand Finals, both in three games.

In Game 1 of Match 1, Romão began with a Cauldron Familiar and Carvalho had a Gilded Goose. The next few turns for Romão were a Trail of Crumbs and another Cauldron Familiar while Carvalho played a Paradise Druid and a Nissa, Who Shakes the World.

Once Upon a Time from Carvalho found a Hydroid Krasis, which he played for eight. Romão played Massacre Girl, which cleared the board and left Carvalho with only two lands and a Nissa left. Carvalho played Oko, Thief of Crowns and turned Massacre Girl into an elk, which then died to a Noxious Grasp.

Swift End killed Nissa and Romão played a Witch’s Oven. The Oven got turned into an elk and Carvalho continued to apply pressure by animating his lands with Nissa. Vraska, Golgari Queen took down Oko and Murderous Rider got played as a creature for Romão. Romão was able to find another Massacre Girl by sacrificing Food to trigger Trail of Crumbs. Carvalho put Romão to one life with another attack with his animated lands and played a Hydroid Krasis for 6. Massacre Girl cleared the board again but Carvalho was still able to get in for the last point of damage and took Game 1 with another land animated by Nissa.

Both players began Game 2 with a Gilded Goose and Romão also had a Cauldron Familiar. Carvahlo played a Turn 2 Oko, Thief of Crowns and Romão played another Gilded Goose. Romão cast Duress, which was countered by a Negate from Carvalho, who then turned his Food tokens into elk and began to get in with some damage and played Thrashing Brontodon.

Romão brought Cauldron Familiar back from the graveyard multiple times to block Carvalho’s elk. Massacre Girl from Romão cleared the board and Carvahlo’s Oko turned it into an elk and played another Thrashing Brontodon.

Vraska, Golgari Queen killed Carvalho’s Oko. Causalities of War from Carvalho destroyed Romão’s Massacre Girl, Vraska, land, and a food token. Romão played Gilded Goose and made a food token with Oko. Carvalho played Nissa, Who Shakes the World and animated a Forest to attack Oko, which was blocked by a recurred Cauldron Familiar.

Romão brought the cat back a couple more times to block the animated lands and then played Massacre Girl to kill everything. Carvalho was able to rebuild quickly with the help of Nissa (protected from Noxious Grasp by Veil of Summer) and Carvalho won the match in two games.

Game 1 of Match 2, both players began with a Gilded Goose. Carvalho played a Paradise Druid into an Oko, Thief of Crowns. Oko died to a Swift End from Romão, who then he played a Witch’s Oven. Once Upon a Time from Carvalho got a land and Romão played Murderous Rider as a creature.

But a Causalities of War from Carvalho destroyed the Witch’s Oven, Murderous Rider, and the Castle Locthwain. Romão played another Murderous Rider and Carvalho attacked with an elk and played a Hydroid Krasis for five and Romão conceded.

In Game 2. Romão began with a Witch’s Oven and a Trail of Crumbs. Romão also played an Oko, Thief of Crowns but it was destroyed by a Vraska, Golgari Queen from Carvalho.

Romão attacked and killed Vraska and played another Oko, Thief of Crowns. Carvalho played Nissa, Who Shakes the World and animated a Forest to attack Oko. Swift End destroyed the Nissa and Oko was killed by an animated land. Romão played a Trail of Crumbs but it was Negated. A sacrificed food let Romão find another Oko, Thief of Crowns with the Trail of Crumbs he already had. Massacre Girl from Romão cleared the board and Carvalho conceded.

Romão began Game 3 with a Cauldron Familiar and Carvalho got an early Oko, Thief of Crowns. Romão played his own Oko, Thief of Crowns. Carvalho attacked the opposing Oko but Cauldron Familiar blocked, then he followed up with a Hydroid Krasis for two.

Duress from Romão took a Negate and he played a Witch’s Oven. The Cauldron Familiar came back from the graveyard to block the oncoming elk and Carvalho played a Thrashing Brontodon. Romão played a Massacre Girl and the Thrashing Brontodon took out the Witch’s Oven.

Carvalho played another Thrashing Brontodon and turned Massacre Girl into an elk. Romão tried to exchange Brontodon for a Food token, forcing Carvahlo to sacrifice it. The next turn, Carvalho found the mana to play Liliana, Dreadhorde General. He also played a Hydroid Krasis for five and then another for six while Romão dug with Castle Locthwain. Massacre Girl from Romão wiped the board but allowed Carvalho to draw a lot of cards thanks to his Liliana. He played a Nissa, Who Shakes the World and, now with three Planeswalkers, Carvalho slowly took over the game and won.

Márcio Carvalho is the fourth and final player to receive a bye to Day 2 of Mythic Championship VII. The other three players are Shota Yasooka from the Pearl Division, William Jensen from the Ruby Division, and Piotr Głowgowski from the Sapphire Division. Mythic Championship VII will take place December 6-8 in Long Beach, California and coverage will be at twitch.tv/magic.
