Week 2 of Team Modern Super League 2 features the Brothers Who Bash squaring up against the Stream Team. The Brothers Who Bash is a powerhouse team made up of Magic Pro League members Brad Nelson and Brian Braun-Duin, as well as Magic pro Corey Baumeister. Stream Team is the squad of Magic Pro League member Jess Estephan, as well as April King and MTGNerdGirl, all players who cut their teeth and made a name streaming Magic Online, and now Magic Arena.
What Will The Teams Be Playing?
The Brother Who Bash
The Brother Who Bash decided to go with a pretty straightforward builds for all five of their decks: Izzet Phoenix, Humans, Eldrazi Tron, Mono-Green Tron, and Lantern Control. Pretty straightforward aside from one thing: 10 copies of Karn, the Great Creator.
Eldrazi Tron is probably the best Karn deck around right now as it has a sideboard full of wish targets for Karn’s -2 ability since the deck is completely colorless. Lantern control is in an interesting spot in the current metagame, since it can both use Karn, the Great Creator (allowing it to cut the often clunky Whir of Invention) and be completely shut out be Karn’s static ability. I am curious to see how well it does with the Karn being so prevalent in Modern these days, though Stream Team only brought four copies themselves.
Stream Team
The decks that Stream Team brought are Izzet Phoenix, Dredge, Boros Burn, Mono-Green Tron, and Izzet Fevered Visions. While the first four are decks that you can expect to play against in any modern tournament, Izzet Fevered Visions is the clear stand out. Sporting 11 ways to bounce lands and three copies of Blood Moon, the Fevered Visions deck could be in a good spot to go to work against the stack of Karn, the Great Creator decks the Brothers Who Bash brought.
Boros Burn is a deck that has dipped some in popularity over the last few weeks, but it presents a bad matchup for both Tron and Phoenix so it’s an excellent place to be this week. The hits keep coming for Stream Team as Dredge boasts a positive matchup against Humans, Phoenix, and Tron, all of which the Brother Who Bash will be playing. By the look of things, as long as Stream Team can pick up a win against Lantern Control, they look primed to do very well this week—but anything can happen and that’s why they play the games!
