At the The Magic: the Gathering panel at San Diego Comic-Con tonight, Wizards announced that Commander 2019 previews will begin on August 1 at GenCon. The product will release a few weeks later on August 23 and will feature four pre-constructed decks.

A product listing that went up last week may have unintentionally leaked (link contains spoilers!) the details around the themes for the four decks.

While the Magic panel was almost entirely devoted to revealing information about Throne of Eldraine, the new expansion set coming out this fall. However, towards the end Mark Rosewater managed to slip in some important information for Commander fans about the 2019 edition of everyone’s favorite supplemental product.

The annual Commander product remains Wizards of the Coast’s most successful supplemental product. The first iteration of the product was released in the Summer of 2011 and since then there have been subsequent products released in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and now 2019. Additionally there have been two anthology products reprinting decks from past years due to massive demand.
