SCG Worcester is this weekend and it is officially time for Legacy Hero’s first real test.  I have to say if I’ve learned anything so far—I am NOT a Death and Taxes player.  It’s a great deck with many fun interactions, but god do I miss 12 Post. Don’t get me wrong, there isn’t anything wrong with D&T. It just isn’t my type of deck personally.  I like ramping up to big mana and then casting the most ridiculous thing possible which is definitely not something you get to do in Death and Taxes.  I have been having fun with the deck though and do feel like I am achieving what I wanted to achieve.

I’m pretty nervous for this weekend. I expect to see a lot of Miracles in the room which has been a tough match up for me so far. I know traditionally it isn’t as hard for Death and Taxes, but I don’t have a full playset of Caverns yet and I don’t have Rishadan Port. Those are key cards against Miracles.

I also expect to see a lot of Lands in the room, but after this playing this week I feel very prepared for the matchup. In one game I was able to deal with six Merit Lage tokens, so I obviously feel like I’m prepared for Lands. Storm and other combo matchups don’t scare me. I’ve done well against them so far, so hopefully that continues.

Honestly though, I don’t feel completely prepared for this weekend. I’m realizing now that I’m a good Post player and I’m an okay Death and Taxes player. But I need way more experience with the deck if I want to do more. The next couple of months leading up to Grand Prix Las Vegas will be a lot of work, which I’m ready to do.  It makes me realize that this deck is really great for people to get into the format with, because it really helps you study and learn.  If you don’t, the deck will punish you. If you decide to try this yourself as a way to get into Legacy, be prepared to put in some work.

I haven’t had a lot of opportunity to practice the burn matchup so that leaves me a bit nervous, and the mirror has proven tough. This weekend is definitely going to be interesting if nothing else. I don’t expect to do great, but I do expect to have fun.  I’m going to try my hardest—I do know that. And pack snacks because I do not plan on paying a ton for a dried-out hamburger at 4:00 when I’ve forgotten to eat meals multiple times already throughout the day and am starving with no idea of what time it is.

I will be tweeting how I do throughout the day so feel free to follow along. If I do really poorly I’ll try to follow another Hipster along—I know Jerry and Aaron will be there—or jump into a side event to give you guys something to follow!

Kate hails from Worcester MA and also does a bit of Card Altering. Check her Stuff out on Facebook! She mainly plays legacy and modern though will occasionally find herself playing EDH.
